Why the English Language Amendment? Respoonse

In "Why the English Amendment",  S.I. Hayakawa is a Canadian born, Japanese race senator wanting to make English the official language of the United States. In class we were asked if his claim was convincing I was on the yes side but just because of the assignment I thought it was a well written article. Without taking a position I said yes but with taking a position I believe English should not be the official language of the United States. Hayakawa was born in Canada so he must not see that the United States is built upon cultural diversity. Personally I like diversity I like when there is different languages and different cultures.I do not see why everyone would want to be the same and not speak different languages. You should be proud of who you are and where you come from. I think Hayakawa is a sell out personally with all respect he should have been proud of being Japanese it is in his blood he should focus on both English and learning about his own culture. If you take peoples languages away then you take their identity. Learning English is important yes but do not force it upon people, if you know another language then do not forgot because knowing different languages and being different is a beautiful thing. Be proud of where you came from and never forget your language.
